Erosion Control
Columbia Basin Helicopters, Inc. is uniquely qualified with our straw mulching experience, quality control measures, and choice of helicopters. We have worked with State and the Federal government agencies on both Call-When-Needed and End Use contracts.
Columbia Basin is able to provide all of the aircraft, ground support equipment, trucks, personnel, and certified weed free straw necessary to complete the project within specified timelines. Columbia Basin utilizes the SATLOC DGPS swath guidance system to ensure the straw is placed within application boundaries. All aspects of document and application quality control are supervised and inspected.
This Spring, Columbia Basin successfully completed the Tripod Fire straw mulching contract on the Okanogan National Forest. The project consisted of supplying and aerially applying 5,000 tons of certified weed free straw mulch over designated areas at one (1) ton per acre. We are able to tailor our services to your needs no matter how large or small the workscope. Columbia Basin Helicopters, Inc. is a safe and efficient operator.
Caterpillar 924G
Columbia Basin Helicopters, Inc. owns all of the ground support equipment necessary to off-load trucks and load the helicopter cargo nets. The Caterpiller 924G front end loader incorporates a single piece lift arm designed to offer increased visibility for the operator.
Caterpillar 297C High Flow XPS 2 Speed Skid Steer

The Caterpiller 297C Skid Steer allows the operator to off-load trucks, turn within its own confined space, and set the straw down. The Skid Steer is able to maneuver in more confined areas than a larger articulating front end loader or telehandler. All of Columbia Basin's ground support equipment are outfitted with Miller bale forks.
Each year Columbia Basin is contracted to aerially seed Burned Area Emergency Rehabilitation areas. We employ both our Hiller 12E Soloys and Bell UH1H helicopters. We utilize the ISOLAIR 80 cubic foot buckets with our Bell UH1H helicopters. We are able to work with seed both from bags and in bulk.
